VEILING

The Styling of the veil is best done in front of a mirror.
Have your clip ready, as it is used to secure the veiling in your hair.

1. Hold the veiling length-wise with your fingers half-way along the side of each end of the veil.
2. Looking in the mirror, hold the veiling near your face at a slight 45 degree angle.
3. Join each side of the veiling together on top of your head a few inches above where you want the veiling to cover your face.
4. Use one hand to hold the veiling in place - with the other hand secure the clip into your hair and the veiling.

This is done by catching parts of the veiling with the prongs of the clip and gently catching enough hair to make sure the clip will be secure it that position.

FLOPPY HAT
Our FLOPPY HAT is made for those who like the floppy look and want to be able to see where they are going as well. The hat usually has two performations on each side of the brim. The following instructions enable you to style the hat to suit your face and to create different brim shapes.

0. Before placing  hat on your head ensure that the felt band is untied, then with the top of your head completely within the crown.
Centrimeter Turn:

Whilst holding the end of the brim with both hands, slowly move and/or tilt the hat to an angle that suits your face.
1. Tie the felt band twice- to secure the head-size.
2. Use your fingers to position the felt band around your head so that it 'hugs' the shape of your forehead.
Brim Option Control:
3. To obtain a trilby-like style: thread  one of the bands through the heart hole (might be a seagull or square shaped hole) to pull up the brim to your desired level. It can be secured by just placing the rest if the band under the band that is covering the head.
Small Brim Option:
4. To obtain 20's style with a smallish brim. Thread the ends of the band through the nearest hole and then pull the bands towards each other in order to tie them together. A tension on the brim will allow you to adjust the size of the brim by pulling the brim down against the tension of the tied up brim. I hope that helps you to understand some of the logistics of styling your CHAPEAU CLAUDETTE hat.

1920's STYLE HATS

Some helpful instructions for wearing and caring for the rolled 20's style and the classic 20's hatsculptured one-off hats hand-made by CHAPEAU CLAUDETTE.
The 20's style felt hat is one of the simpliest to date. It is soft and cuddles the size and shape of your head. The rolled up part of the hat is place above the face BUT it does not have to be in the center. It always looks best off center. It is important to hold the hat as explained earlier and whilst in front of a mirror , move the hat along the front of the face slowly, the slower you move the hat- the better you will discover where the hat should sit. The second most important instruction for this hat is how you use the felt strap. The strap is initially used to secure the one-sized hand-crafted felt hat to fit the size of your head. It is up to you to tie it where you wish, with a simple knot, leaving you the option to use the strap to decorate. Last but not least, move the secured strap down along the hat starting from the back. A band that is secured at the nape of your neck first, is secure and allows you to choose how you want the band to sit around the rest of your head, allowing you to alter the shape.
P.S. Just remember: All hats look their best slightly tilted to the side :)

STRAP CAP

The STRAP CAP is a favorite amongst our customers. It can be dressed up by adorning the straps with brooches and or corsages and worn casually everyday. Here are some choice instructions:
1.Place the crown of the hat directly on the crown of your head
2.Whilst holding the ends of the straps in each hand, pull gently downwards on each side.
3. Re-position your hands on the straps  next to your neck so that youcan criss-cross  the straps at the nap of your neck, and then pull both straps straight up along each side of the hat.
4.You can then decide where you want to finish with a bow or tie - if you do not want a visible bow- wrap one of the straps along the top and join the two straps near the back.
5.Finally- adjust the strap that is nearest to the  brim so that it
sits securely adjacent to your forehead.
P.S. A hat worn slightly more to one side compliments the face.

HATCARE

   BASIC HATCARE

Firstly, the hat is made to take on the shape of your head, so please do not place the crown of the hat on any other object. It is also best not to handle your hat by the front brim. It is best lifted or put on by holding it with both hands by the side or near the back. The long felt straps can be used to tie your hat on a hook or even a hanger. The hats are best preserved when hanging from their straps(or
the elastic in the flat caps) and with the top of the hat facing the ground. I do hope that makes sense. Secondly, these hats are not rain hats BUT...if you do get caught in a light drizzle to medium  rain whilst wearing your hat- it is best to:....

1. Use your umbella.
2. Keep your hat on until you have a place to let it dry properly.
3. Letting it dry properly is best done in the hanging postion, as explained earlier, and away from direct heat.

The felt is best kept clean by brushing it regularly with a clothes brush . This is best done whilst it is sitting on your head. Please do not use water on any stain.
Salt can be use on Red wine stains ,but only on the stained area, please note that is best not to leave the salt  on for any extended amount of time.

P.s. Just remember: slowly tilt your hat a bit to the side :)
